Catriona Watt - Young Musician of the Year 2007

Catriona Watt, from Lewis, has won the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year Award (2007). With a performance of gaelic song, she was up against some challenging opposition. Listening on radio across the airwaves, there was nevertheless a fantastic atmosphere apparent, and all the competitors seemed to be enjoying the occasion.

Catriona was delighted with her win and said

It's been a great night and we've all throughly enjoyed it – albeit it was a little nervewracking.

I'm looking forward to making the most of winning this award and using every opportunity it brings to further my career in traditional music.

The judges said that it was a very tough decision.. ..but then they always say that! What matters is that Catriona is going to have a fantastic year ahead of her with a Footstompin record deal, festival performances, a session on Archie Fisher's Travelling folk programme, and of course all the perks that such a title brings.

All the best for your career Catriona, and if you're ever across in Dundee, pay us a visit in the fishermans session, or perhaps in next years Fest'n'Furious festival of traditional music.
